about

Window Wondering is a simple piano-vocal track (featuring the sublime piano-playing of Dan Brown, whose album ‘Rewilding’ was recently long-listed in the Scottish Trad Music Awards). Imagine it performed in a hotel bar, to and for no-one in particular, as the weary staff tidy up at the end of another long shift, and the singer muses on paths not chosen.

lyrics

Been this side of the door so long
Looking out my window, wondering
In the morning, I still hear birdsong
Still hear slow traffic … rumbling

How could it be so hard to step
Across a once-imagined line?
At night, I close my eyes and slip
In dreams between your world and mine

And then I see you as you were
The way the light played in your hair
And I recall the question in your eyes
Would I still find it there...?
I wonder… would I still find in there

Wish I’d known you as you’ve aged
Seen how the lines would change your face
(And) found the answer for your eyes
(In) words on glass my finger traced

And then I see you as you were
The way the light played in your hair
And I recall the question in your eyes
I wonder -- would I still find it there...?
